DEMOSTAF project in a few words
- European funding to promote staff exchanges in research and innovation (RISE programme)
- 14 academic institutions mostly located in Europe and Africa and 4 African statistical offices
- Almost a hundred participants (researchers, doctoral students, statisticians…), benefit of secondments
- A 4-year project from 2016 to 2019
Scientific objectives
The project comes under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations with the aim of :
- Making progress on emerging population issues in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Assessing and improving the quality of African demographic data and public statistics in particular
Its research activities are based on the combined use of :
- Quantitative data provided by national statistical offices (census, surveys)
- Local data (HDSS, local civil registration system)
Institutional objectives
- Promote international collaboration between academic institutions and non-academic institutions
- Conduct joint research project, offer training and opportunities for knowledge transfers between the partners

DEMOSTAF project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement n°690984.
