DEMOSTAF project in a few words

• European funding to promote staff exchanges in research and innovation (RISE programme)
• 14 academic institutions mostly located in Europe and Africa and 4 African statistical offices
• Almost a hundred participants (researchers, doctoral students, statisticians…), benefit of secondments
• A 4-year project from 2016 to 2019

Scientific objectives

The project comes under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations with the aim of :

• Making progress on emerging population issues in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Assessing and improving the quality of African demographic data and public statistics in particular

Its research activities are based on the combined use of :

• Quantitative data provided by national statistical offices (census, surveys) 
• Local data (HDSS, local civil registration system)

Institutional objectives

• Promote international collaboration between academic institutions and non-academic institutions
• Conduct joint research project, offer training and opportunities for knowledge transfers between the partners
